KATHAK IMMERSION

An introductory program for the beginners to learn, explore and practice Kathak Dance

Kathak Immersion offers an in-depth exploration of Kathak Dance. It is designed for people of all ages and skill levels, from those taking their first steps in dance to those looking to enhance their expertise. The intention behind this program is to provide a genuine understanding of Kathak, allowing participants to truly experience its essence. Rooted in the esteemed Jaipur Gharana tradition, this workshop offers hands-on learning and exploration of the intricate aspects of Kathak Dance.

The immersion workshops aims to plant and nurture the seed of Indian Classical Dance among people. The workshops are conducted online and offline to allow anyone from across the globe to learn Kathak in its purest form. Kathak Immersion is also a pathway for participants to pursue a path for professional training in Kathak to expand their horizons. In order to achieve this, participants of this workshop will have the opportunity to continue their training with Annu as a part of weekly group or one-on-one sessions conducted online and offline. ​

Logistics Involved : 
  • December 17 - 23, 2024 ​ |  Online on Zoom 

  • Two batches : 8am - 9.15am & 7pm - 8.15pm 

  • Last Date for Registration : December 15, 2024

 

  • Minimum age to join the workshop is 12+yrs. There's NO upper limit.

 

  • The suggested contribution for this workshop is on sliding scale between INR 4000 - INR 6000.  We propose a sliding scale of financial contribution that can accommodate varied paying capacities of participants coming from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. The participants are encouraged to contribute as per their heart and financial situation. The ones who are capable of contributing on higher side are encouraged to do so, as we also wish to accommodate a few individuals who are not in a position to contribute financially.

The workshop covers a wide spectrum of activities such as :

  • Meditation Sessions: Commence each session with mindfulness exercises to center and prepare participants for the learning experience.

  • Kathak Practical and Theoretical Sessions: Delve into the intricate elements of Kathak through comprehensive practical training and theoretical understanding.

  • Sharing Circles: Foster a sense of community through interactive sessions encouraging dialogue, exchange, and mutual learning.

  • Mindfulness Through Dance: Incorporate mindfulness practices into dance movements, enhancing self-awareness and artistic expression.

  • Teamwork: Emphasize collaboration and collective learning experiences through group exercises and activities.

  • Group Performance: Culminate the workshop with a collective performance showcasing acquired skills and creativity.

  • Facial Expressions (Abhinaya): Exploring the emotive storytelling through facial gestures.​

  • Taal (Rhythm): Understanding and practicing rhythmic patterns essential to Kathak.​

  • Ang (Body movements): Learning the diverse body movements and postures to portray various characters.​

  • History and Context: Delve into the historical and cultural contexts shaping Kathak's evolution and significance.​

  • Physical Conditioning & Preparation: Incorporate exercises or warm-ups tailored to improve flexibility, strength, and posture, aiding Kathak performance.​

  • Improvisation and creativity: Encouraging participants to experiment and create within the framework of Kathak's technicalities​

  • Music appreciation: Exploring the musical elements that accompany Kathak, such as instruments and compositions.​

  • Kathak's Relevance in Daily Life: Connecting Dance with Everyday Significance

  • Stage presence and performance techniques: Developing confidence and stage etiquette during Kathak performances.

 

 

Kathak is much more than a dance style, it is a medium that allows one to develop artistic expression and creativity. It is also a great medium to nurture our mental and physical well-being. The Kathak immersion workshop has been designed to use Kathak as a meditative medium to develop self-awareness, a sense of confidence, and team work. Monthly online Baithaks for individual or group performances have been weaved into the sessions to encourage learners to dive deep into their creativity, foster a sense of community, and explore Kathak.

A FEW GENERAL GUIDELINES 

 

No prior training or experience in classical dance is needed to join the workshop.

The workshop is open to people of all genders. Anyone who wishes to explore Kathak is welcome to join.
